Welcome to Tourist Office Graft-De Rijp
As you walk through De Rijp with its splendidly restored 17th century houses, you will appreciate why Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater called it "The finest village in Holland". The history of centuries is still most evident. The Town Hall with its weighing house, the great Gothic Church, the farmhouses and wooden townhouses all bear witness to the style and glory of the past. Local guides will be glad to give you an explanation of the 23 stained glass windows, the Jan van der Heyden fire extinguisher and whale fishing/catching.
With two musea, galleries of modern art, every other year in December "Midwinterfestival", where the old centre will be decorated in Dickensstyle and a Chrismas-market and various free admissible performances by groups, singers, musicians etc., a gold- and silversmith and at least ten sculptors, living and working here, De Rijp also have a thriving contemporary role.
The neighbouring Eilandspolder nature reserve can be discovered on foot, by bicycle or boat.
